Disability specialist Fish Insurance has launched a new policy specifically designed to protect homes that have been adapted and equipped for people with disabilities.
The company’s Adapted Home Insurance buildings cover offers new-for-old protection for often vital adaptations. These include interior and exterior stairlifts, access ramps, electric and hydraulic hoists and lifts, specialist bathing facilities and low height fittings.
The policy will also cover as standard manual wheelchairs and a variety of mobility and disability aids such as moving and handling equipment, limb-lifters, portable ramps and furniture designed or adapted to accommodate a disability. This is in addition to the benefits you might expect from a standard home insurance policy such as fire, theft, storm and flood damage cover.
Also included as standard is family legal protection insurance. This will settle up to £50,000 in legal costs should the policyholder become embroiled in a contract or property dispute, or if a member of the household need to recover losses or compensation following an accident.
Optional home emergency cover can be added to protect against burst pipes, blocked toilets, sinks and drain, boiler or electricity failure and pest infestations.
The new policy follows the launch last week by Fish of another specialist scheme to protect prosthetic and orthotic devices as the company continues to extend its portfolio of policies for people with disabilities or mobility issues. That portfolio already includes insurance for mobility scooters, powered and manual wheelchairs, mobility aid and car and travel polices for disabled people.
