Hearing loss marathon runner, Jamie Flanagan, recently completed the 160 mile Ocean Floor Race ultra-marathon in Egypt in just 73 hours, wearing the Aquaris hearing aid from Siemens Hearing Instruments. Jamie, who is from Edinburgh, successfully ran the race through the Sahara desert with 12 other contestants battling temperatures reaching 38oC, lows of 9oC, high winds and sandstorms.
Aquaris is a fully waterproof, dust-proof and sweat-proof digital hearing instrument – the only one of its kind in the world. “Only Aquaris could have stood up to the kinds of extreme conditions I was running in,” commented Jamie.
Previously a musician, Jamie lost his hearing to Wengeners Granulomatosis, an auto-immune disease that also caused partial facial paralysis. He ran the Ocean Floor Race fundraising for the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation charity.
