TGA, the UK’s leading mobility scooter specialist, has presented Steve Tarrant with the Breeze GT he used recently to achieve a new Guinness World Record for ‘The Greatest distance covered in 24 hours by a mobility scooter’.

Steve was given this record breaking mobility scooter by TGA as recognition of his outstanding determination in achieving this feat at Goodwood Motorsport Circuit during May. TGA loaned Steve this scooter for his epic challenge and supported him with onsite TGA engineers and complete mechanical back-up. The Managing Director of TGA, Daniel Stone, felt it is perfectly fitting that Steve should receive this new, high specification scooter free of charge and presented the Breeze at TGA’s headquarters.

Steve Tarrant, 53 from Poole, is a remarkable disabled motorsport marshal who became disabled following a serious motorsport accident in 2000 that resulted in the loss of a leg and multiple injuries. He has managed to rebuild his life after this near tragic experience and continues to marshal internationally at events such as Le Mans 24 Hours and Petit Le Mans, Atlanta. Steve was also a medal bearing Games Maker during the Olympics and Paralympics that led to a Big Society Award from David Cameron.

Steve commented: “I would like to thank TGA not only for presenting me with the Breeze S4 GT, but for supporting me throughout the world record attempt – they have allowed me to discover yet again what I am capable of. Since my accident I continue to ‘rediscover myself’ and this latest challenge tested me to the absolute limits. It was an amazing experience and on a daily basis, my TGA scooter will be a lifeline for independence either around Poole or when marshaling at motorsport events. I recently used my previous TGA Vita scooter when marshaling at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It gave me complete freedom to access the whole site and perform my marshaling duties unhindered thanks to its rotational seat. I am already in initial discussions with TGA regarding an even bigger world record attempt in 2015, which will test my resolve and determination to an even higher level. One thing is for sure, my TGA Breeze is ready to deliver 100% reliability and unparalleled performance whatever extreme challenge we endeavor upon.”

Daniel Stone added: “Steve is a real inspiration and we are delighted to have presented this TGA Breeze S4 GT to him at our headquarters in Sudbury. Bearing in mind Steve’s history and what he has achieved, you cannot fail to admire him. He has been a pleasure to work with on the world record challenge and we look forward to supporting him in the future. We always felt confident our Breeze would deliver the performance Steve needed to smash the world record and now, he has this tried and tested durability for use everyday.”

Steve completed his epic world record challenge in May following 24-hours of driving this TGA Breeze S4 GT mobility scooter around a pre-determined course at Goodwood. Steve achieved a world record-breaking distance of 190.2 miles (306.1km) by driving through the night and completing over 1,800 laps of a 167m circuit, only stopping briefly for battery changes. Pending ratification, Steve will have smashed the current distance of 170.63 miles (274.60km) to officially hold a new Guinness World Record™ for ‘The Greatest distance covered in 24 hours by a mobility scooter’. This awe-inspiring effort by Steve in terms of his determination and stamina has been heightened further by the engineering achievement. Not only did the TGA Breeze with its wider rear wheels deliver 100% reliability and extraordinary battery range, it completed the course with purposely-punctured tyres to demonstrate the effectiveness of TGA’s new sealant system. A company called Sales Science based in Poole manufactures this puncture sealant solution.
