bbs music concertBlue Badge Style Announces Royal Academy of Music Bursary 2016/17 for Musicians with Disabilities With A Unique ‘Inclusive ‘ Concert.

Last year’s inaugural Blue Badge MIX raised funds to support musicians with disabilities at the Royal Academy of Music. The second inclusive concert in Central London will raise further funds for the 2016/17 academic year.

The multi-genre event, on the 11 May, will be a showcase for an eclectic mix of disabled and able-bodied talent. Several acts have already signed up to play, including pianist James Welland, The Two Sopranos, Singer Songwriter David 9 Lunas.

The recipient of last year’s bursary, Fiona Joice, Soprano, said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be awarded this scholarship. It has gone a long way to paying my fees.  Throughout my education I’ve struggled with my dyslexia and discalculia. Since studying music I feel I have found my niche.”

Blue Badge Style has created a unique MIX concert in conjunction with Aldwych Sinfonia, a democratic orchestra that uses no formal conductor, rather a member of the orchestra conducts at each concert. It will be a concert of inclusion, where no genre is left out and no physical ability is excluded — the BBS MIX! From jazz to folk, funk, classical and beyond, the concert will have something for everyone. There will also be a première of a new pop/dance piece.

The concert is taking place at St George’s church in Bloomsbury. The venue has been chosen because it is emblematic of the concert’s ethos in that, despite being an old Hawksmoor church, it is fully accessible for people with disabilities.

It will also be an opportunity for a first look at the new Blue Badge Style Gallery. The only service that considers the importance of style as well as providing access information. Highlighting areas that ordinary online galleries often miss, the Blue Badge Style Gallery sits on the venues website and takes a customer with disabilities on a stylish, photographic journey through the place.

There will be a champagne reception at 7pm, before the concert, to celebrate this the most inclusive of events in London this year and plenty of intervals to enjoy the wine donated by Domaine Des Jeanne.
