Pengwern College is an independent specialist college providing education and care for students aged 16-25. The college grounds extend 23 acres with its own farm, forest area, horticulture area with poly tunnels and vegetable gardens, IT suites, high tech sensory room, café and catering facilities, art studio and football pitch. We support students with moderate to severe learning disabilities. The college also offer places to students with a broad range of complex needs, including challenging behaviour and additional health needs, within our Care standard Registration.
Specialist support is provided to students throughout the curriculum. Pengwern has a reputation for providing high quality further education where students gain the skills and confidence they need to move onto the next stage of their lives, whether that is gaining employment, moving towards independent living or progressing onto further study. Alongside this we have a specialist therapy team who are actively involved in supporting students to achieve and manage daily activities effectively in order to reach their full potential. Our specialist support services include:
- Speech and language therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Hydrotherapy
- Audiology
- Educational psychologist
An appropriate curriculum is key to providing opportunities that enable students to develop their functional, vocational and personal skills. Each student is assessed and involved in the shaping of an individualised programme through person centred approach, enabling them to access accredited courses (City & Guilds), work based learning and life skills.
