fundraising_picPosAbility Magazine are helping to raise funds for a Memorial bench this Christmas. Following a moving conversation with Peter McNab who was calling to cancel the subscription for his late wife Joan, PosAbility discovered that Peter was hoping to keep the memory of his wife alive with a memorial bench in Dunoon, where they first met.

PosAbility has started a JustGiving page to help raise funds to honour Joan and give Peter a place to feel close to her. You can donate at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/PosAbility-Magazine-1

Joan and Peter’s Story . . .

Joan McNab sadly passed away from a terminal disease called cerebellar ataxia, affecting balance and speech.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Peter.

Peter doted on her. He filled their 42 long years together making her laugh, caring for her; loving her with all he was worth.

He lost her to this parasitic illness that had already claimed the lives of her two sisters, leaving Peter almost entirely alone.

The native Glaswegian met the love of his life in Dunoon, where Joan called home.

Admiring the mouth of the River Clyde, Joan took a bench on the waterfront watching the water flow into the Firth, she was joined by a handsome young man who wouldn’t budge until he won her affection.

That was the first time they met on the river’s edge. The last time, he was letting her ashes slip from their urn into the ever-changing waters below, to the haunting sound of a lone piper. He dropped a rose to join her:

“This is for you, Joan.”

It was followed by a second rose:

“And this is for me to follow you.”

The PosAbility Team are proposing a fundraising scheme to help Peter pay for a memorial bench on the waterfront in Dunoon to give Joan and Peter’s friends and family who live abroad somewhere they could visit and give Peter the chance to feel close to his wife one more time.

A bench with a plinth from Dunoon council costs £945. We hope to raise a little over £1000 to cover the costs of bringing Peter up from their marital home in Manchester to see their bench being unveiled.

After we have raised the money and handed it over to the Dunoon Council, the bench will be created and finished within 4-6 weeks.
