Hansel Barn DanceCowboy boots, Stetsons and checked shirts were the order of the day at the recent Midsummer’s Day Barn Dance at Ayr Equitation Centre this week.

More than 70 customers and staff from Hansel’s South Ayrshire Supported Living service joined in the hoedown held as part of the year-long activities to celebrate the local charity’s 50th anniversary.

Jamie Doolan, Service Manager of South Ayrshire Supported Living, which organised the event, said: “It was a tremendous day and everyone really got into the spirit of it – it was amazing to see a small corner of Ayrshire transformed into a road house in Nashville for a few hours.

“A rootin, tootin time was had by all as customers, carers and team members celebrated as only the Southern States know how to.”

2013 is the 50th anniversary of Hansel and there are lots of ways for local people to join in the celebrations. From dress up days to sports quizzes, bake sales to party nights and fun runs, the charity has posted lots of ideas on its website to encourage people to get involved.
