PosAbility Magazine has teamed up with The German National Tourist Office to offer our readers the chance to win an accessible holiday for two people in Frankfurt to visit the city’s Christmas Market this December.
The prize includes return flights from London Heathrow to Frankfurt with Lufthansa, travelling on the 19th December and returning on 21st December, plus two nights accommodation at the 5 star hotel, Villa Kennedy.
Built in 1904 as a grand family home, Villa Kennedy has been immaculately restored and extended. Today, it combines contemporary elegance with old world touches, such as ornate ceilings and the original oak stairs. Located beside the Main River’s myriad museums, the hotel is a short walk from the city’s liveliest bars, boutiques and cultural attractions. Enjoy dinner in the hotel’s gusto restaurant, enjoy a drink or classic bite in the award winning JFK Bar or pamper yourself with one of 120 treatments at the Frankfurt Spa. All public areas of the Villa Kennedy are fully accessible for disabled guests along with a number of guest rooms, one of which can be booked at the winner’s request.
The history of German Christmas markets goes way back to the Late Middle Ages and Frankfurt’s is one of the oldest in Germany. The massive Christmas tree is the time honoured symbol of the market, illuminating the old town centre with thousands of fairy lights. The market’s beautifully decorated stalls offer a wide variety of local and regional specialities such as gingerbread, “Bethmännchen” or the famous Frankfurt apple wine as well as Christmas ornaments, arts and crafts and typical Frankfurt creations like pottery and stoneware products. One of the market’s most unusual attractions is the huge honey shop in St Paul’s Square. Situated in a 300-year-old half-timbered house erected for the duration of the Christmas market, the two-storey shop sells honey, mead, candles and many other honey-based products that can be tasted or tested in the cosy first floor lounge.
Visitors to the market can also enjoy a variety of music such as the tower horns sounding from the balcony of Old St Nicholas Church or Christmas carols sung from the stage.
