The Kit4Kidz2Adultz Exhibition in Leeds on 5 October will give people who are 16 years old or over who get or have applied for the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP). The minimum age in the UK for driving a car is 17 years old, unless you receive the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance, in which case you can start to drive at 16.
This year at the exhibition we have a designated test driving area with specially adapted vehicles, to give you a unique opportunity to test drive and adapted vehicle. Our mobility therapists and driving assessors will be at hand on the day to offer expert advice and practical driving sessions for people aged 16+. Practical sessions are bookable on the day for anyone who is interested.
The exhibition will showcase new and innovative assistive technology, providing information and advice to enable children and adults with a disability or additional needs to lead more independent lives. Thousands of people with disabilities are driving cars that have been adapted to suit their needs, enabling them to have independent mobility and to enjoy the freedom of driving.
Senior Occupational Therapist Annette Abbott announced:
“Each year visitors ask us to arrange for more companies to come so they know about the latest products available so this year we have included kit for adults as well.”
