bradfrodSocial responsibility is a key aspect of Industrial Services Group (ISG), a social enterprise run by Bradford Council.

Despite disabilities many employers would consider too significant for their own job roles, ISG, has found success in the PVC-U windows, composite door, curtain walling and festival light industries. The unique integration of people with disabilities into its operation allows the Group to deliver high-quality products in a socially responsible fashion.

In the PVC-U windows and composite door industries, companies generally integrate automation into their operations to increase output and cut costs. As a social enterprise, Industrial Services Group has a different priority; employing staff with a range of different disabilities, for example, visual and hearing impairments and learning disabilities, to deliver high quality competitive products and services whilst developing their own skills and personal confidence.

Benjamin, who recently joined Industrial Services Group as a part-time volunteer from the Bradford School of Management, said:

“On my first day at ISG I was introduced to Matloob, who is visually impaired but was fitting door hinges on the production line. You would think that his disability would stop him from doing this but his work is excellent.

“It was fantastic to see how skilled the staff are despite their disabilities, and shows that focusing on what people can do rather than what they can’t do produces amazing results.”

Matloob Hussain, a Manufacturing Operative at ISG, said:

“I appreciate the opportunities that I get at ISG, especially the training I’ve had in IT. I have enjoyed working with the people over the years. I love working with other people with a disability and I am so proud of the high quality of products we make.”

Peter Keeley, General Manager at Industrial Services Group, said:

“We only exist because of the people who work for us. Our core purpose is all about providing meaningful training and employment for people with disabilities by producing high quality products at a competitive price.

“One of the added benefits our customers see is the corporate social responsibility side that we offer. Generally in our industry it is purely a commercial arrangement. However companies are increasingly valuing the work of socially responsible companies like ISG.”

The amazing work of Industrial Services Group’s staff is reflected in the accreditations it holds, for which regular independent assessments are carried out to ensure sustainable high quality. ISG proudly holds all the relevant industry-recognised accreditations. For example: Windows to BS7412 / PAS 24 Kite Mark, Secured by Design and BS EN ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management.
