The Calvert Trust, which provides outdoor adventure breaks to the disabled community, is delighted to announce that three centres based in Exmoor, Kielder and the Lake District will be receiving funding from the third tranche of the MOD’s Armed Forces Covenant (LIBOR) Fund. The funding comes following George Osborne’s recent announcement of twenty four projects, including the Calvert Trust, which will receive some of the £35 million of funding to benefit armed forces families across the UK.
One of the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant is to overcome disadvantage faced by members of the armed forces, especially those injured in service. Over the next two years, the Calvert Trust will receive funding to assist 240 serving, reserve and veteran armed forces families with a disabled service person, partner or a child in the family. The money will be used to support the families in attending the Calvert Trust which has over 40 years’ experience in delivering challenging outdoor adventure, helping members of the disabled community to overcome obstacles and discover “it’s what you can do that counts”. The three centres provide accessible accommodation and unique experiences for people with disabilities including horse riding, water sports and climbing.
Tony Potter, CEO of Calvert Trust Exmoor and LIBOR project leader for The Calvert Trust said:
“We feel privileged that our project ‘Uniting Service families with disabilities’ has been selected by the MOD. The Calvert Trust already has a proven track record cooperating with many Armed Forces Charities; we are relishing the opportunity to help and support as many families as we can through our programme of adventurous activity breaks at our 3 Centres”.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, said, “I am delighted to be able to announce more money for those who are supporting our brave armed forces, veterans and their families. It is right that money paid in fines by people who demonstrated the worst of the values in our society is now being used to help and support those who demonstrate the very best.” The full announcement from the Chancellor can be read at www.gov.uk.
