This is the moment a shameless couple were caught on CCTV stealing a purse from a disabled pensioner – by taking it from her wheelchair.
The 71-year-old victim, who lives in a nursing home, was targeted as she went shopping with a carer in Rushden, Northamptonshire.
Police yesterday released CCTV footage of the pick-pockets who struck in a branch of Wilkinson’s.
The 52-second clip shows a woman wearing a pink jumper and a tall man wearing a black hat enter the store and pick up a shopping basket.
The video then cuts to footage of the frail victim looking at items on shelves, slowly moving along in her electric wheelchair, with a blue blanket covering her legs.
The pair then approach the woman and pretend to pick up a bottle of shampoo from the bottom shelf.
But as the carer walks on, the woman in the pink jumper leans over and rummages in a bag hanging on the back of the victim’s wheelchair.
After several seconds she pulls out the pensioner’s purse, which contained more than £100 in cash, and passes it to her male accomplice before both walk out of the shop.
A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: ‘Officers investigating the case would like to speak to anyone who was in the store at that time and saw the couple, or who knows who they are.’
