Fifteen year old Team GB athlete wins international music competition with Christmas mash-up

Team GB athlete, Rebecca Puckey, impressed international audiences with her acoustic mash-up to win a £5,000 artist development package with Music Crowns. Showcasing her vocal and instrumental talents in a video filmed in her bedroom, Rebecca won the hearts of thousands to take gold.

It was only after winning the international search for a Real Christmas No.1 competition that Rebecca’s disabilities came to light. Diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, the 15 year old suffers from the connective tissue disorder which causes joint instability and constant chronic pain. Alfie Palmer, Head of Artist Management at Music Crowns comments, “It was such an enlightening moment, the fact that no matter who you are, or what you do, or where you have come from, anyone can follow their dreams and make it into a reality.”

The Cornish singer beat over 700 other singers from across the globe to win the coveted campaign package with the global music promotion company. Entries included The Australian Voice contenders AViiDA and Track 45 who were Hollywood finalists on X Factor USA. Rebecca thought little of her chances, but her international audience thought differently and Rebecca won with over 137,000 views, and almost 3,000 shares, and an overall reach of 427,030 on that single video.

Rebecca is not only an extremely talented musician but also a passionate athlete, fencing for the GB Paralympic team and recently represented them at a Senior World Cup in Pisa. Rebecca has overcome many obstacles and pushed herself to the limit to make her dreams a reality. When asked about her commitments with Team GB, Rebecca commented: “Team GB takes up quite a lot of my time training. Music wise, I’m going to be sensible and just aim for more public performances to gain more experience and exposure”.

On her entry into the competition, Rebecca explains: “I saw another Cornish artist, Daisy Clark,  on Music Crowns and I just loved her music. It made me realise there was nothing stopping me doing the same thing, so I uploaded my video and entered the competition. I never expected to find myself in the top 10, let alone win, I am so thankful to everyone who watched my video and voted for me.”

Music Crowns are looking forward to working with this talented young girl with such a bright future ahead of her.
