Councillor Roy Arora, Mayor of Kingston, and Mayoress Manisha Arora warmly welcomed Kingston resident Daniel Wolff at a special reception held to celebrate his gold and bronze medals for athletics at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles last month.
On celebrating Daniel’s achievements, Councillor Roy Arora said:
“We are very proud of Daniel. He’s not only represented the borough at local and national level, but has now represented Great Britain and become a world champion. As well as this, sport has also given Daniel the confidence to live independently, which is fantastic.”
Daniel, who has autism, was part of the GB Team in the athletics section and won gold in the 400m and bronze in the 4 x 100m races. This follows Daniel representing Team Kingston at the London Youth Games in 2009 in the 400m and 800m.
Daniel follows in the footsteps of his great grandfather, Frederick Wolff, who won a gold medal in the 4 x 400 relay and set a new European record at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
