Last night’s episode of cult baking show The Great British Bake Off saw Paralympian Kadeena Cox strap on an apron and enter the Big White Tent in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer.

She was joined by comedians Allan Carr and Aisling Bea, and actress Terri Hatcher in her quest to add a win in Bake Off to her myriad awards.

“I do have a very competitive streak,” she said on the show, “and as much as I’ll be having fun, some part of me will be like ‘I want to win this, I’m in it to win it.'”

Beginning with bakewell tart muffins, the Paralympian was on track for pole position with a positive start in the first round, but struggled in the technical round. Muscle spasms prevented her from mixing the custard for her custard pies, and even though Terri Hatcher stepped in to help her through, she came last in the technical.

Showing no end to her talents, Kadeena baked a spectacular rainbow unicorn cake called Rio the Unicorn, inspired by the two gold medals she won at the Paralympics in Rio. The cake featured a lower rainbow tier, and an upper tier which was iced with a giant horn to resemble a unicorn, and when cut open, revealed rainbow layers and tiny gold candy balls.

While she didn’t win – congratulations Terri! – Kadeena Cox will always be a star baker in our eyes!
