Kidz up North to Support Young Adults with Disabilities

kidzKidz up North is a well established one day exhibition dedicated to children with disabilities and special needs, their parents, carers and professionals who support them. The Kidz exhibitions were established 14 years ago by Manchester based charity, Disabled Living and have seen visitor numbers increase to over 3,500 to this free one day event.

This years’ exhibition Kidz to Adultz at Event City in November will see the introduction and expansion of services and equipment to support young adults up to the age of 25, with exhibitors from the housing, higher education and employment fields together with domiciliary care services, personal budget brokers and accessible vehicles to those providing holiday and travel options and so much more. Debra Evans, Chief Executive highlights ‘the decision to expand the remit of Kidz up North is timely, to mirror the recent changes to health and social care legislation and the implementation on the 1st April this year of ‘The Children & Families Act 2014’.

Debra continues, by explaining how a small event originating in Manchester now supports children throughout the UK. The demand for information and advice for equipment and services to support disabled children was so great, people travelled from around the country to Kidz up North in the early days. In response to demand, Disabled Living has developed a portfolio of ‘Kidz exhibitions’ – Kidz South in Reading, Kidz in the Middle at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and Kidz Scotland at the Highland Showground, Edinburgh. We have just finalised plans to introduce a Kidz Wales exhibition to our successful events calendar in 2016.
