Josef Craig swam to victory last night in style. Having shaved 9 seconds of his personal best in the qualifiers yesterday and setting a new world record, he had enough in the tank to smash his new world record and take gold in the final last night. Charlotte Henshaw and Liz Johnson both made the podium with silver and bronze in the SB6 100m Breaststroke.
European record holder Henshaw had qualified fastest and emerged as the main contender for gold as she swam neck and neck with 14 year old Ukrainian sensation Viktoriia Savtsova down the back 50m. [Read more...]
Oliver Hynd completed his set of medals on his Paralympic debut with gold in the SM8 200m Individual Medley on day seven of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The 17 year old had already lifted 400m Freestyle silver and 100m Backstroke bronze but rose to the top spot of the podium with a dominant performance in his main event. [Read more...]
Following an incredible and emotional race on Saturday where Ellie Simmonds battled for gold, it appears she could be on for another gold medal.
This morning has seen her smash her own world record in the SM6 200m Individual Medley taking 1.17secs off her record to set a time of 3:06.97. Ellie admitted it was a big surprise to set that time:
“Oh my gosh, I’m quite shocked by that time. I wasn’t going for the world record, but I was just going in there to feel the stroke,” said the Swansea-based swimmer.
“The crowd were going wild so I thought it was quite good. I’m so happy with a 3:06. I felt really easy and really good. It’s good to be on top form at the biggest Paralympic Games of my life,” she added.
“The crowd were amazing and gave me a big buzz, I can’t wait to race in the final tonight.”

Jonathan Fox has just won the first Gold medal in the pool for Great Britain!
In a strong performance he powered through the 100m backstroke S7 to secure his gold medal. He broke the world record in this morning’s heats and although he didn’t swim quite as fast in the final, he did enough to ensure he was a Paralympic Champion.
